Roma Tub Chair by Apartmento

Claire Sullivan - Tuesday, February 16, 2010

The basic Tub chair design can be traced back many centuries to the French court. The Apartmento Roma chair is a restrained interpretation of the classic version.  The chair is framed  in oak, re-inforcing the sculptural lines and available in either full or partly upholstered versions.

Angel Chair Kibardin Design

Claire Sullivan - Thursday, December 17, 2009

This chair seems like it was made with me in mind. The adornments suit my angelic personality. The leather upholstered chair has removable and washable plastic wings - because you know you'll want to keep them sparkling white for maximum effect. Who needs the angel a top of the Christmas tree when you can have one sitting at the dinning room table?

You can order your very own Angel Chair here.

Out/ In Chair by Philippe Starck for Driade

Claire Sullivan - Tuesday, November 17, 2009

The fantastic Out/ In Chairs by Philippe Starck that were launched earlier this year in Milan have finally arrived in New Zealand. These chairs are an excellent example of Starck's tongue and cheek approach to design. As their name suggests the Out/ In chair is suitable both outdoors and in, and to me seem like the perfect chair to add a little intrigue and mystery to an otherwise predicable cafe courtyard.

You can view the chairs now locally here.

Meltdown Cable Tie Chair

Constructed  from 10,000 black nylon cable ties, designer Tom Price jumbles and weaves together the ties then heats the surface and presses a set-shaped form into the ball. The ties liquify as they come into contact with the heated form, the shape of the seat is set as it cools creating a contrasting texture to the remaining ties.

The Ant Chair by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen

Claire Sullivan - Wednesday, November 04, 2009

Typically we're not fans of red ants - unless of course they're designed by Arne Jacobsen and manufactured by Fritz Hansen. The Ant Chair, a classic, was designed to be light, stable and easy to stack. Initially made with only three legs, they became so popular that this version - with four legs was also made.

Ivy Chair By H220430 Studio

Claire Sullivan - Monday, September 28, 2009

Looking like the wind has magically blown these leaves into the shape of a chair, Japanese design studio H220430's  Ivy Chair aims to remind us of the power of nature within the city. Reality and fantasy team up with this design to help celebrate nature with the white leaves adding a surrealist element.
