The Razor

Claire Sullivan - Tuesday, September 29, 2009

Located in the Californian seaside community of La Jolla, The Razor by architect Wallace E. Cunningham has the owners passion for the surrounding view in mind.
The home offers a panorama revealed in a series of curved forms set into the cliffside. The soft angles keep the house from being simply another modern glass box.

Ceramic Sculptures by Merete Rasmussen

Claire Sullivan - Tuesday, September 29, 2009

Having grown up with parents who were potters, I have a huge respect for these pieces by Ceramic Sculptor Merete Rasmussen. Each piece is hand constructed in stoneware clay using a coiling technique. The fragile and complicated pieces she achieves form almost perfect concave and convex shapes, which would not be easy when working with wet and malleable clay .

Bond Light By Bruno Rainaldi for Terzani

Claire Sullivan - Tuesday, September 29, 2009

Manufactured by Terzani, the manufacturer of our favourite Atlantis Chandelier,  is the Bond Light designed by Bruno Rainaldi. The outer body of the light is a glass sphere with openings in its surface that allow the gold leaf applique within the light to shine through. This effect creates trails of light across the room which Terzani says, reminds them of meteors racing across the sky.

Grohe Ondus Collection

Claire Sullivan - Tuesday, September 29, 2009

This relatively new collection by Grohe named Ondus fuses simplicity with emotion. Inspired by nature - but not organic, it aims to evolve the geometric boundaries of minimalism. With digital control, you can adjust and set the temperature for various activities: showering, brushing your teeth or washing your hands. What's even better, is they recognise that how you like it, will inevitably be different to your partner - a simple male or female icon allows you to have it, whichever way you want.

Australian design firm Derlot show us with their Lerod Collection, that adding a simple fur throw to a powder coated steel chair - can change not only its appearance, but also how one would consider using the chair within their home. We like their initiative.

Paisley, designed by LZF Lamps at the Luis Eslava Studio is a modular wooden screen made up of sinuous geometric shapes which convert the light coming through it. Painstakingly lengthy to make - its detailed woodwork sets it apart from other room dividers.  Its modular design also allows it to work effectively in a variety of spaces.

Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater Now Available For Private Access

Claire Sullivan - Monday, September 28, 2009

Frank Lloyd Wright, America's most famous architect, designed this house - named Fallingwater for his clients the Kaufmann family between 1936 and 1939. Located in the mountains South-East of Pittsburgh, the Kaufmanns initially thought the house would be designed to face the waterfall so that they could see it from the main viewing points within the home. Wright, however, designed the house to sit over it, which enabled the house to look like it's floating. He wanted his clients to be part of the waterfall, to hear it and for it to be intrinsically part of the home.

As his most iconic home, it is now a National Historic Landmark and is open daily to the public for a full tour of the property. Now, however, fans of Wright's can book exclusive private access to the home for $1195 US, which gives a group of eight visitors exclusive overnight use of the home. This gives guests the ability to experience what it would be like to live at Fallingwater - although, sleeping arrangements are still limited to the Frank Lloyd Wright style separate home situated next to the main house on solid ground.
